Temporary supports are painted to facilitate cleaning after use. The temporary supports are placed between rafters and are attached with screws on their own temporary support. Place screws so each part can be disassembled from below after the roof is on. These temporary supports are not necessary structurally, they simply make the finished roof flat rather than curved between the rafters.

The bamboo test section and the mold descriptions that follow make roofs identical to what is pictured above. The last page of this section is longer and contains details of construction. Notice the angle of the rafters as they reach the ridge in the above photo; some of the mold development covered later involves half roof sections exactly as pictured.
Begin the inside work after the roof has been placed from the outside. The prior roof tests in chapters one and two established that one layer of burlap is not enough for a roof of this size. Note that plastic which separated the fresh material and the supports has been slipped from between two temporary supports and the roof, to the right. A slight jerk with one hand grasping each of the two lower corners easily pulled them free. It is possible that dry burlap might be substituted for the plastic and more firmly joined in place by applying the cement and acrylic mix after the supports are removed.
